Leah’s Animal Portraits are original oil paintings that are painted from photographs. Leah says: "Many people ask if their pet has to sit for the painting. I always laugh thinking about what it would be like trying to paint a live animal, especially my two terrors."

Leah is originally from the Philadelphia suburbs. She grew up with her parents, 7 siblings, 12 dogs, 2 cats, 6 horses, and a goat, (all at the same time) in a pre-Revolutionary farmhouse nestled on 50 acres with plenty of room for everyone to run. It would have been a very lonely place without the animals, especially since both cats and eight of the dogs lived in the house.

Leah started her career as an artist in 1982 after she graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University, but it was interrupted by a very demanding, high-powered career as an agent and scout for models. In 1996 Leah renewed her interest in her art and started to study at the Art Students’ League in New York City. Here she found a different perspective and wonderful mentors.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums including Small Works shows at the Salander O’Reilly Gallery in New York, the Belsky Museum in New Jersey, and Art Cares in both New York and Los Angeles. Leah has been commissioned to paint many famous pets; her clients include Liza Minnelli, Martha Stewart, John Barrett, Richard Donner, and Sylvester and Jennifer Stallone.

A New York City resident for 21 years, Leah recently moved to bucolic Saratoga Springs, NY to continue her work as an artist.
